Title: | Why Did Anxiety about Genome-edited Foods Arise? -Considering Risk Communication- |
Summary: | Two genome-edited food items have been notified to the competent ministries, and have begun to reach consumers' dining tables. In particular, "Madai" red sea bream is the world's first commercialized genome-edited animal food. However, consumers' anxiety about safety and resistance to genome-edited food are not minor. After explaining how national safety regulations are enforced, Ms. Matsunaga discussed risk perception bias that the general public tends to show toward new technologies, problems in information provision by the media, and risk communication measures. |
