The Frontier Development Program for Genome Editing

Activity

On November 9, 2023, the fourth social meeting was held in the form of a special seminar.
The seminar featured Dr. MASHIMO Tomoji of the Institute of Medical Science, the University of Tokyo, who is a role model of our program and an entrepreneur of a genome editing-related business venture.
He was involved in the establishment of the C4U Corporation, a biotech company originating from Osaka University. Currently, he is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the C4U Corporation as an External Director of the Board.

He discussed his start-up background, the future of genome editing technology, and his current research project. He then answered all the questions that the students had, including "What skills are needed to balance the roles of researcher and entrepreneur?" and "What did you think about risk management when starting a company?" A total of 38 students and 10 faculty members attended the meeting, and the students found the meeting provided meaningful insights.
