The Frontier Development Program for Genome Editing

Activity

Dr. HOTTA Akitsu from the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application at Kyoto University, was invited at the fifth social gathering on December 12, 2024, which was attended by 15 students.

Dr. Hotta has currently been employing innovative technologies such as genetic mutation repair using CRISPR-Cas9 and the generation of iPS cells that avoid the immune rejection of xenotransplantation to develop genome-edited therapeutics for treating genetic diseases. He shared his insights from the standpoint of a "researcher of genome editing-based therapies and drug discovery," which was one of the role models of this program.
The students listened attentively to his talk, in which he spoke about his research, history, clinical development and career path.
In the interactive session that followed, students asked him several questions and some asked for his advice regarding their career paths.
